Philadelphia Runner Track Club

Club Information: The Philadelphia Runner Track Club began in the fall of 2000 as an athlete-organized and operated competitive running team.  Initially known as SureKill Track Club, namesake of the most challenging hill on Philadelphia’s once venerable Belmont Plateau cross-country course, the club was founded by LaSalle University graduate Brian Gallagher, Pete Dougherty, and Tom Sabol.  Their goal was to establish a club to promote and foster the development of post-collegiate runners in their pursuit of ever-faster times, national championships and Olympic dream – and they have done just that.  The team has grown and flourished since the early days, expanding from a handful of friends to a corps of several dozen competitive runner.  Five of those runners have qualified for the US Olympic Trials Marathon (Ted Callinan and Matt Byrne in 2004 and 2008, Michele Lilienthal, Abby Dean, and Meredith Lambert in 2008).  The mission of the Philadelphia Runner Track Club and its members is to strive in their efforts, athletic and otherwise, to bring recognition to the club, its members, its sponsors & affiliates,as well as its friends and greater Philadelphia community.

Run Information: Regular runs are scheduled Tuesday nights at Penn, some Thursday nights, and Sundays at Lloyd Hall.  Contact the team captain for more information.

Philly Surge Running

Club Information: At Philly Surge Running we believe that in order to build a well-rounded runner you need to address several different energy systems in a progressive manner.  That means that, depending on when your goal race is, you’ll want to train certain paces in certain amounts at certain times.

We’ll figure all that out for you and more.  We’ll teach you drills so that your form improves.  We’ll guide you through a proper warm-up (way more than just run a few laps, touch your toes and go!).  We’ll cheer you on when you’re starting to doubt yourself.  You just show up consistently and the results WILL come.  And that’s what w’re all about – commitment. We are extremely committed to you and helping you become better.  And so we expect the same from you.

Club Information: The Wissahickon Wanderers is a running club that is free of charge and open to all runners.  The focus of the group is primarily on the Wissahickon park (in NW Philly).

Depending on the time of year, we have several weekly group workouts: trail runs on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, track workouts on Tuesdays, and we have done some hill workouts on and off, too. Please check our Facebook group or our regular website for details.

We help organize several events during the year.  Most notably, the Spring and Fall Trail Series, the Wissahickon Trail Classic, the Solstice 10K, and a Track meet.

If you are new to the park and wish to explore the trails, we suggest you join us on a Thursday evening or Saturday morning trail run.  Again, everything is free of charge and people of all abilities are welcome.

Run Information:
Thursday evenings starting at 6:30pm at Valley Green Inn (Wissahickon Park)
Saturday Mornings starting at 8:00am at Valley Green Inn (Wissahickon Park)
